About
Oh hey, I was just watering my plants, didn’t see you there👋
I’m Alicia, a multidisciplinary designer and researcher who’s focus is designing for an inclusive and sustainable future.
I co-founded Future Insight Group - a product research, strategy, and consumer insight studio. We love experimenting with making useful, scalable, and desirable products that not only better humans, but emphasize the ecosystem from which we extract the building blocks of our very existence. Our North Star is to devote more effort towards projects under UN's Sustainable Development Goals.
Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I grew up in Yunnan, China. This province spans from tropical rainforest in Southeast Asia to the magnificent Himalayas. With 25 ethnic minority groups, Yunnan is the most culturally and anthropologically diverse province in China. My childhood was filled with fascinating road trips across the province and opportunities to experience different ways of living. These experiences shaped the way I perceive cultural nuances and behaviour. I learned that to adopt a new environment is to become a part of that environment. Fast forward to today, as a design researcher, I am still studying people in their natural environment.
Speaking
In October 2018, I had a chance to present a 30-minute talk on How to get stakeholder buy-in for UX research at Ladies that UX. My goal was to share what I’ve learned and the steps I took to turn the tables - converting stakeholders into advocates for research at Postmedia.
